About Equestria West
Equestria West is one of the newer wedding venues in the Twin Cities area, and honestly, it has quickly become one of the most popular for couples wanting something that feels modern but still connected to nature.
Part of the Bavaria Downs collection alongside the Edward Anne Estate and Woodland Glasshaus, Equestria West has a completely different feel from the historic mansion spaces. It’s brighter, more modern, really open, and surrounded by greenery and prairie views.
One thing I really like about this venue is that it feels polished without feeling too formal. It has that “escape from the city” feeling while still being close enough to Minneapolis that logistics stay easy for guests.
And honestly, the natural light here is kind of incredible.

Getting Married at Equestria West
Equestria West is one of those venues that works for a lot of different styles without feeling like a blank white box.
The space can lean romantic, modern, colorful, minimal, editorial, black tie, honestly a little bit of everything works here because the venue already has enough personality on its own.
I also think the layout flows really well throughout the day. Nothing feels too far apart or disconnected, which helps the wedding feel relaxed instead of rushed.
And the mix of indoor and outdoor spaces gives couples a lot of flexibility, especially in Minnesota where weather can do literally whatever it wants.
Why Couples Love Equestria West
I think couples are really drawn to Equestria West because it feels clean and modern without losing warmth.
A lot of modern venues can feel cold or overly industrial, but this one still feels welcoming and easy to be in. The big windows, prairie views, and softer natural textures help balance everything out.
Couples also love that:
- the venue feels private and peaceful
- there’s plenty of room for larger guest counts
- indoor and outdoor options both photograph beautifully
- the getting ready spaces are actually nice to spend time in
- the entire property feels cohesive from start to finish
It’s one of those venues where the wedding day just naturally feels smooth.
Why I love photographing weddings at Equestria West
Photographing weddings at Equestria West honestly feels really easy in the best way.
The light stays beautiful throughout most of the day, which makes galleries feel really cohesive and natural. And there’s enough variety throughout the property that photos never start feeling repetitive.
You have the cleaner architectural spaces inside, the prairie views outside, the courtyard, the ceremony spaces, sunset fields, all without needing to leave the venue.
The courtyard is probably my favorite part personally. It has this really calm atmosphere during cocktail hour and becomes super pretty once the lights start coming on at night.

Getting Ready Spaces
The getting ready suites at Equestria West are spacious, well design and really comfortable spaces to spend the morning in.
The main suite has beautiful natural light and plenty of room for everyone to spread out without things feeling chaotic. It works really well for those quieter moments before the ceremony and all the in-between interactions throughout the morning.
The second suite has a completely different vibe in a fun way. With the pool table and more lounge-style setup, it feels more relaxed and social while everyone gets ready.
Having separate spaces also helps the morning feel way less crowded and much more relaxed overall.
The Grand Hall at Equestria West
The Grand Hall at Equestria West is one of the venue’s standout spaces.
The high ceilings, modern chandeliers, and neutral palette create a clean, elevated foundation that works beautifully for so many different wedding aesthetics.
It feels grand without feeling overwhelming, which honestly is a difficult balance for larger venues to achieve.
The room adapts incredibly well whether you want:
- Romantic candlelight
- Editorial black tie vibes
- Minimal modern styling
- Colorful floral-heavy design
- Soft and timeless elegance
The flexibility of the space is a huge part of what makes it so appealing.
The Courtyard at Equestria West
The courtyard is honestly one of my favorite parts of the venue.
It’s beautifully landscaped, warm, inviting, and incredibly versatile throughout the wedding day. Couples can use it for:
- Cocktail hour
- Outdoor ceremonies
- Guest mingling
- Portraits
- Evening receptions under string lights
The courtyard creates this calm, social atmosphere that feels really welcoming for guests while also photographing beautifully.
At night, especially with lighting added, it becomes incredibly romantic.
The courtyard is honestly one of my favorite spaces at the venue.
It works really well for cocktail hour because guests naturally spread out and relax there, but it’s also beautiful for portraits and smaller in-between moments throughout the day.
The landscaping keeps everything feeling private and tucked away, and once the lights come on in the evening, the whole space gets really cozy and romantic without trying too hard.
It’s one of those areas that just photographs beautifully at basically any time of day.
Outdoor Ceremony Space
The outdoor ceremony space feels very open and peaceful while still being close to the main building, which makes everything flow easily for guests.
The prairie views and greenery surrounding the ceremony area already make the space feel naturally pretty, so couples can keep things simple or really personalize it with florals and installations.
It’s one of those ceremony locations that feels naturally beautiful without needing excessive decor, though it also works really well if couples want to fully personalize the space.
Photo Opportunities Throughout the Venue
One of the best parts about Equestria West is how many different photo locations you can use without ever leaving the property.
The front of the venue, the prairie areas, the courtyard, the architecture inside, the ceremony spaces, everything feels connected while still giving a lot of variety in the final gallery.
It’s also one of those venues where the in-between spaces photograph really well too. Walking to cocktail hour, hanging out in the courtyard, sneaking away for sunset photos, a lot of the best moments happen naturally throughout the property.
