If you’ve ever dreamed of a wedding that feels elegant without feeling trendy, the Minneapolis Club is one of my favorite venues in the Twin Cities. As a Minneapolis wedding photographer, I’ve had the opportunity to photograph weddings all over Minnesota, and this venue continues to be one I love coming back to. It combines historic architecture, incredible natural light, and a sense of timelessness that’s hard to find anywhere else.
If I had to make a list of my favorite wedding venues in Minneapolis, the Minneapolis Club would absolutely be on it. It isn’t the newest venue in town or the one everyone is talking about this year, and honestly, I think that’s part of its charm. It’s one of those places that has been beautiful for decades and will probably still feel just as timeless decades from now.
Some venues become popular because they’re having a moment. The Minneapolis Club has been beautiful for generations, and I have a feeling it’ll still be beautiful generations from now.
There’s something about walking through those doors that immediately slows the pace down. The rich woodwork, grand staircase, incredible windows, historic details… it all feels elegant without trying too hard.
As a wedding photographer, I love spaces that already have personality. They don’t need to be covered in décor to feel special. The Minneapolis Club is one of those places where the architecture quietly does a lot of the heavy lifting, leaving plenty of room for your personalities to shine.

The Minneapolis Club has always been one of my favorite wedding venues in Minneapolis. It has so much character! From the grand staircase to the wood-paneled rooms and beautiful natural light all throughout, it is perfect for a classic wedding and a modern one as well. It’s also one of my favorite venues for couples planning a black-tie wedding because the architecture complements that style so naturally. It’s the kind of place that lets your wedding be the focus while quietly adding so much beauty to every part of the day.
Why I love photographing Minneapolis Club weddings
Every venue has its own personality, and the Minneapolis Club has one that I never get tired of.
I tend to be drawn to places that already have character. Beautiful light is always a bonus (and this venue has plenty of it), but what really makes me excited is when a space tells part of the story all on its own.
The Minneapolis Club feels warm, welcoming, and effortlessly elegant. The grand staircase, the historic woodwork, the library, the chandeliers all over! Every room has its own personality without competing for attention. It feels very refined and classic.
It’s also one of those venues where couples can actually slow down and enjoy their day. Everything flows naturally, so instead of spending hours driving between locations, you get to spend more time celebrating with the people you love. As a photographer, those are usually the moments I end up loving most.
What is the Minneapolis Club like for weddings?
If you’re dreaming of a wedding that feels timeless at its bones, the Minneapolis Club is definitely worth a visit.
Right in the heart of downtown Minneapolis, it’s a historic private club that hosts weddings for both members and non-members. The venue offers several beautiful event spaces, so it’s easy to keep your ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, and dancing all in one place while still giving each part of the day its own feel. Couples also have exclusive access to the entire second floor during their wedding, which makes the day feel incredibly private.
One of my favorite things is that the venue doesn’t need much to shine. Whether your style is classic black tie, romantic candlelight, colorful florals, or something more understated, the architecture complements it beautifully instead of competing with it.

The best photo locations at the Minneapolis Club
One of the reasons I love photographing weddings here is that we don’t have to go far to create a really diverse gallery.
Inside the Club, some of my favorite spots include:
- The iconic grand staircase

- The elegant hallways
- Window-lit corners throughout the building
- The ballroom before guests arrive
- The historic lounge spaces
If your timeline allows for a little adventure, downtown Minneapolis offers so many beautiful portrait locations just a few minutes away. Depending on the look you’re going for, we might wander toward Nicollet Mall, Peavey Plaza, or even Stone Arch Bridge for a mix of city views and iconic Minneapolis scenery.
The nice thing is that none of it feels like a production. We can step away for a few minutes, make some beautiful photographs together, and get you right back to your guests.

Things to Know Before You Book
Every venue has its little quirks, and I always think it’s helpful to know a few things ahead of time!
- The venue has it’s covered parking ramp
- The club also has a handful of boutique guest rooms on-site.
- Being downtown you have tons of access to Hotels , restaurants and things to do!
- Golden hour is not totally visible in the patio or the street since there are many buildings around covering the sun
- Give yourself enough time for portraits. Between the beautiful interiors and the nearby downtown streets, there are so many opportunities for photos that you’ll never regret having an extra fifteen or twenty minutes built into your wedding timeline.
Is the Minneapolis Club a good venue in winter?
As someone who photographs a lot of Minnesota weddings, I can confidently say this venue shines year-round.
Winter weddings here would feel especially cozy. Guests can stay warm, the historic interiors photograph beautifully, and we have plenty of options for indoor portraits no matter what the forecast decides to do.
Then, if we get one of those magical snowy evenings, we’ll bundle up for five minutes, make some beautiful portraits, and head right back inside. Best of both worlds.
I always tell my couples not to stress too much about the weather. Some of my favorite wedding photos have happened because we embraced whatever Minnesota gave us that day.

Can you have both the ceremony and reception there?
Yes! One of the things couples love about the Minneapolis Club is that you can host your ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, and reception all in one location. Not having to travel between venues makes the day feel much more relaxed and gives you more time to actually enjoy your wedding with the people you love.
Is there natural light?
There really is. One of the reasons I enjoy photographing weddings here is because of the beautiful window light throughout the Club. It creates soft, flattering light for portraits while the historic architecture adds so much character to every image. Even on cloudy Minnesota days, there are plenty of gorgeous spots for photos indoors.
Where should we take portraits?
Honestly, you don’t have to go far. Some of my favorite portraits happen right inside the Minneapolis Club, on the grand staircase, in the library, and outside in the front of the building!
If your timeline allows, I also love exploring a few nearby downtown locations like Stone Arch Bridge or St Anthony Main for a little variety. Since everything is just a short drive away, we can create a diverse gallery without taking you away from your guests for long.
How much time should we set aside for photos at the Minneapolis Club?
If we’re doing all of your portraits at the Club, I usually recommend setting aside about 30–45 minutes for just the two of you. If you’d like to explore a few downtown Minneapolis locations as well, planning for around an hour gives us enough time to create a beautiful variety of images without feeling rushed. My biggest advice is to build in a little breathing room—you’ll never regret having a few extra minutes together on your wedding day.

One of the reasons couples love the Minneapolis Club is that it’s close to several beautiful ceremony locations, making it easy to pair a traditional church ceremony with a downtown reception.
- Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church – one of my personal favorites, with beautiful architecture and just a few minutes from the Club.
- The Basilica of Saint Mary – perfect for larger Catholic weddings and one of Minneapolis’ most iconic churches.
- Westminster Presbyterian Church – a beautiful historic church within downtown Minneapolis.
- St. Olaf Catholic Church – another wonderful option nearby.
